Best Trailer Hitch Receiver, Vehicle Wiring Harness and Bike Rack For a 2020 Ram ProMaster City

Question:

We would like to put a hitch on our 2020 Ram Promaster City. At this time we plan to use it for a hitch mount bike rack but may also eventually want to use it for our single axle utility trailer. I was wondering if you would recommend either the Curt or Drawtite hitch over the other. Also, we dont plan to install the wiring harness until later when we start using the trailer. Which harness would you recommend? It would only have to power the lights, no brakes. Is there any down side/benefit to installing the harness at the same time as the hitch?

I recommend using the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75219 on your 2020 Ram ProMaster City. This hitch does not need additional stabilizing straps when carrying hitch mounted accessories.

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13215 recommends the use of Curt Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap # 18050 when you use it with hitch mounted accessories such as a bike rack which you intend to use.

I would recommend installing the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118719 at the same time that you install the receiver. By doing these at the same time it will allow you to run all the wiring easier without having to try and fish the wiring through the bumper cover as you will have it off for installing the receiver. You can use a Mounting Bracket # 18144 if you wish to mount the 4-way outside the vehicle and not run it through the door when you need it for towing.

I recommend the Thule Apex Swing XT Bike Rack # TH9027XT for your ProMaster. The swing away rack will allow you to open your back doors to access any gear that you will keep in the back without having to remove the rack. It is great for if you need to load any large items through the rear doors as well with the bikes loaded. A integrated lock system will both secure the rack to the receiver and bikes to the rack.

If you already have a bike rack a Kuat Pivot 2 Swing Away Hitch Extender # PVP20B will fit a rack that fits a 2" receiver to allow for the same swing ability.
