Can 6000lb Dexter Nev-r Adjust Electric Brakes 23-458 and 23-459 Be Used On 5200lb Axles?
Question:
I HAVE A 5200 LB AL-CO KOBER AXLE AND I BOUGHT A SET OF NEW SELF ADJUSTING BRAKES. THE NEW BRAKES ARE PART NUMBERS 23-458-00 AND 23-459-OO RATED FOR A 6000 LB AXLE. THEY ARE ON A 2005 FOREST RIVER WILDCAT FIFTH WHEEL. I INSTALLED A NEW BRAKE CONTROL PRODIGY P2 FOR 2,4,6,8, BRAKE APPLICATIONS. I SEE I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE RIGHT ONES. CAN I GET BY WITH THE 23-458 AND 23-459 KITS? I HAVE ALREADY INSTALLED THEM. THANK YOU

There is nothing wrong with using the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Assembly - 12" - Left Hand - 6,000 lbs # 23-458 and # 23-459 on your 2005 Forest River Wildcat 5th wheel trailer even though it has a 5200lb AL-KO axle.
5200-7000lb brake assemblies are the same size at 12" x 2" and are interchangeable, though the higher weighted brakes will have stronger magnets giving the brakes more braking power.
The only thing you will need to do is go test the brakes. To do this go to an empty parking lot and at around 20 MPH apply the brakes of your truck. If the brakes lock up then turn down the gain, and if you can feel the trailer pushing the truck then turn up the gain.
Ideally you want the brakes to give the max braking power without locking up.
