No Trailer Connected Error Shown On Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller

Question:

I have a Prodigy p3 brake controller on my 2001 gmc Yukon. I put this in a couple years ago with the plug in molex connector for this vehicle. I use it to tow a boat trailer with electric over hydraulic brake system. This system has worked great for 2 years but now it tells me there is no trailer connected. All my lights work and when testing with a multi meter my brake output matches the limit I set when using the brake override lever. I guess my question is How does this unit know there is a trailer connected? Is there something else I should be looking for?

If you take a look at the owner's manual for the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 you'll see that the no trailer connected error can be caused by a few different things. I have attached each of these for you below.

1) Trailer not connected to tow vehicle.
2) Trailer connected with open circuit on brake line.
3) Trailer connector disconnected or corroded.
4) Loss of trailer brake magnet ground.
