How Waterproof is TorkLift TLA7700L Battery Box

Question:

I need to mount two GP-LIFEP04-100 lithium batteries on my travel trailer tongue, but the batteries warn not to get them wet. This excludes nearly all battery boxes, and there isnt room to use a waterproof tongue storage box, so Im struggling for a solution. I think most if not all lithium batteries have a similar warning about not getting wet. Is this battery box waterproof? If not, how can it claim to be suited for lithium batteries when they cant get wet, and can you suggest a solution that is waterproof and 11inch or less front-to-back width?

According to the folks at TorkLift, the # TLA7700L battery box would be considered water resistant, not waterproof, as all batteries need to be able to vent. The don't offer a battery box that's 100% waterproof for that reason. My TorkLift rep tells me that they've received feedback from customers that have used self-stick weatherstripping on the lid of the box to help seal it which works well to keep water away from the wiring connections at the terminal. I've linked to a product description video featuring the # TLA7700L battery box.

The # TLA7700L would be the best option we offer to fit into your available space, between the weatherstripping and some silicone caulk to seal up the holes, you should be able to get the box waterproof enough to prevent damage while still allowing a small amount of air inside.
