The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11240 is the correct receiver for your 2012 Chevrolet Sonic LT Sedan. This class I hitch is rated for 200lbs of tongue weight and towing capacity of 2,000lbs. Be sure to verify your towing capacity with Chevrolet and use the lower of the 2 numbers as a maximum.
A Curt Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap # 18050 is required for hitch mounted accessories such as a Thule Hitching Post Pro - Folding Tilting 4 Bike Rack w Anti-Sway # TH934XTR. The strap will provide extra support to the receiver by limiting torque on the hitch.
For trailer towing you will need a Curt Drawbar for 1-1/4" Hitches # C45520 and either a 2" Ball # C40018 or 1-7/8" Ball # C40001. I recommend using a Master Lock Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock and Coupler Lock Set # 3794DAT to secure the mount in your receiver and will provide locks for the trailer as well both while connected to your vehicle and in storage.
The Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM11141174 will plug into your taillights on your Sonic. This will provide you with a 4-way flat connector that you will need for towing a trailer. It can also be used for Auxiliary Lights # C53201 that can be used on your bike rack or other hitch mounted accessory if your taillights view is impaired by the bikes or other gear.
