Can I Use The 7-Way Trailer Connector To Power A Small Winch?

was wondering if i can use the 12v coming off the trailer plug to power a small winch on my car trailer. The draw is 30 amp and the wires are fused protected, Thanks

To determine if this will work for your 2012 Ford Expedition you will need to check the requirements needed on the winch. Your Expedition does appear to have a 30 amp relay that sends power to that portion of your 7-way, according to the owners manual. You will need to verify the wire gauge as it should be 12 gauge wiring on the power and ground sides of the 7-way connector.

Your winch should have a recommended wire gauge or minimum gauge specification for it as well.

If the winch is capable of working on the wire gauge that you have on your Expedition then yes, you will be able to connect the winch using a Pollak Black Plastic, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector # PK12706.

If your winch does not meet these specifications, please let me know what you do require and I will give you my recommendation.
