I believe you are asking if there is a brake controller that you can just plug into your 2003 Chevy Avalanche that has the factory 7-way, and the answer is yes. For an '03 Avalanche with the factory 7-way, the only thing you will need is the brake controller and plug-in adapter. The controller and adapter I highly recommend for you is from Draw-Tite:
- Brake EVN Trailer Brake Controller # TK63VR
- Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers - GM # 3015-P
I recommend the I-Command because it is a great value due to its unique combination of quality and cost-effectiveness. The I-Command is going to give you smooth braking, is easy to use, and has a bright display that is simple to read and understand. For a combination of quality, reliability, and price, there really isn't a better option than the I-Command.
I have linked a video below for you of a different brake controller being installed on a similar model year Avalanche, and if you go to about the 0:35 mark of the video, you can see exactly where you will need to plug in the # 3015-P to connect the I-Command # 5535.
