According to the owner's manual I looked up, there are no restrictions regarding flat towing your 2021 Subaru Crosstrek with manual transmission. All you will need are the right parts in order to flat tow your Crosstrek, and I'll list out the best ones below to make it easier for you to order.
- Base Plate Kit: Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-52927-5
- Tow Bar: Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-522
- Safety Chains: Roadmaster 80" Coiled Safety Cables # RM-646
- Wiring Kit: Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-152-1676-7
- Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400
- Supplemental Braking System: Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # DM86VR
The Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plates are the best option because they have removable tabs which means your Crosstrek is going to keep its clean look when it isn't being towed. The Falcon tow bar has a lot going for it, including long arms which make it easier than other bars to maneuver when towing, cable guides for the safety cables, and non-binding latches that make it much simpler to remove the tow bar than other models that can bind up and make removing the bar extremely difficult.
The wiring kit is fantastic because its diode system is designed to prevent any type of electrical feedback to keep your Crosstrek's electrical system safe, and the Brake-Lite relay is needed to prevent your Crosstrek's brake signal from overriding your turn signal. Finally, the Stay-IN-Play DUO is by far the best braking system because it is a one-time installs which will never require any type of removal or reactivation, and give you braking proportional to that of your motorhome. This results in much smoother braking than most systems which send out a pre-set amount of braking power and thus are more rigid.
I have added some links below to video reviews for you to check out as well if you'd like to take a look.
