Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2021 Ford F-150 w/ a Roadmaster Falcon All-Terrain Tow Bar

Question:

Thank you for the great response. One more question. Is there any advantage to the crossbar style? The direct connect is the same price and seems cleaner, easier, and lighter. Any reason not to get that? I'll be ordering one of those and a Demco SBS Reinstall Kit for Air Force One Supplemental Braking System as soon as I hear back. Thanks so much. Item # SM99226

We can get you set up to flat tow your 2021 Ford F-150, and you will need a number of parts, including base plates, in order to do so, though you do already have one with the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-522.

Along with the Roadmaster base plates you mentioned, the other things you will need are safety chains (if you don't have them), as well as a wiring kit, brake light relay, and supplemental braking system. I'll go ahead and list out the parts for you to make it easy to order.

- Base Plate Kit: Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # RM58VR

- Safety Chains: Roadmaster Safety Cables # RM-645

- Wiring Kit (For LED Lights): Roadmaster Smart Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Wiring Kit for Variable Voltage LED Tail Lights # RM38FR
or
- Wiring Kit (For Incandescent Lights): Roadmaster Smart Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Wiring Kit for Variable Voltage Incandescent Tail Lights # RM26FR

- Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400

- Supplemental Braking System: Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System # HM39524

You can use your existing crossbar, though you will need to use the removable arms that come with the new Roadmaster base plate. Then in regards to the wiring kit, I really like this one as it is designed to keep your F-150's electrical system safe, and the Brake-Lite relay is needed because your truck has a combined wiring system, and what the relay does is keep your F-150's brake signal from overriding the turn signal sent by your RV.

As for the braking system, I recommend the Brake Buddy because of its convenience. It is a one-touch start, has a remote which allows you to control and monitor the settings, and lets you control the amount of braking power you want.

I have added some links below to directions and video reviews for you to check out as well if you'd like to take a look.

Happy I could be of help, and that's a good question. There really is just one advantage to going with the crossbar style # RM58VR, which is that this style of base plate is compatible with rock guards/shields, while the direct-connect base plates are not. So the advantage is that with the crossbar base plates, you can protect your F-150 by using one of these guards: - Roadmaster Guardian Rock Guard # RM-4000 - Roadmaster Tow Defender Protective Screening # RM-4700 Your Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain Tow Bar # RM-522 is also compatible with both styles, so if you want to use a rock guard, go with the crossbar style, but if not then the easiest connection for your tow bar will be the direct-connect style of base plates, with the correct fit on your 2021 Ford F-150 being the following: - Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM38VR Also, since you mentioned the reinstall kit, I did want to just go ahead and confirm for you that you do have the correct part for the Demco Air Force One system: - Demco SBS Reinstall Kit for Air Force One Supplemental Braking System # SM99226
