Can Demco SL Series 5th Wheel Hitch Fit Puck System of 2019 Ford F-350 Super Duty Long Bed

Question:

Good Morning. I am purchasing a F350 DRW with pre-towing puck system installed. My current truck has a Demco SL21K hitch on its rails. I am hoping with the purchase of the DM6175, I can affix the rails of the SL21K hitch. Can I do this, or must I look at having to purchase a new 5th hitch so it can directly fit into the Ford puck system. Appreciate any help/info on this setup.

That is a good question, though Demco has confirmed for us that the SL Series of 5th wheel hitches cannot be used with trucks that have the puck systems like your 2019 Ford F-350. The issue is that the SL Series of hitches mount to their own style of base rails, and what adapters like the # DM6175 do is mount in the pucks and simulate above-bed base rails. There isn't a separate adapter like that which the SL Series of hitches can mount to.

So you will indeed need a new 5th wheel hitch that mounts in the puck, and I highly recommend going with an option from Reese, the M5, which is available with a capacity of either 20k or 27k:

- 20,000 lb Capacity: Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for Ford Towing Prep Package # RP30921

- 27,000 lb Capacity: Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for Ford Towing Prep Package # RP30922

I really like the M5 for a number of reasons, starting with its Talon jaw system, that has a couple of outstanding benefits, starting with how easy it is to use. The jaws are always ready to accept the king pin, which means you can couple without having to use the handle to open the jaw system. The best part about the Talon jaws are that they wrap completely around the king pin like an adhesive, which means the amount of movement is minimized, giving you a more stable, enjoyable towing experience than hitches that have lower-quality jaws.

The Reese M5 also has a handy color indicator system on the back of its head which will turn from red to green to let you know if the jaws on the hitch are locked around the king pin, taking any guesswork out of the equation. The head of the M5 is also able to be offset by 1-1/2" front or back to give you optimal clearance.

I have added a link below to a video review for you to check out as well of the M5 if you'd like to take a look.
