The Draw-Tite Class II 1-1/4-Inch Trailer Hitch # 36540 is a compatible fit for your 2013 Toyota Avalon. While the receiver tube will be visible beneath your bumper, it should not protrude. There is no welding required to install this item, but some drilling may be required as well as the temporary lowering of the exhaust.
I have provided links to the installation instructions for the hitch. I have also included a link to our FAQ page on trailer hitches.
If you need trailer wiring for this hitch, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Wiring Harness # 118578. It provides a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailers lights. I have provided a link to the installation instructions for this item.
For a ball mount, you might be interested in the Draw-Tite Class II Drawbar # 36071. It provides a 5/8-inch rise and a 1-1/4-inch drop and has a gross towing weight of 3500 lbs and a tongue weight of 300 lbs. It also comes with a pin and clip. If you need a hitch ball, you can go with the 1-7/8-inch ball # 19256 or the 2-inch ball # 19258.
