Using Different Adapter Modules for EOH Brake Actuator on 2008 GMC Sierra

Question:

Hi, I have a 2008 GMC Sierra 2500 with integrated brakes. i would like to install an Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Adapter Module directly to the IBC for compatibility with all trailers. I am wondering if there is any reliability difference between Dexter DX35FR and HBA-CAM for Michigan with salty roads? I have seen reviews of people installing directly to their truck and also one of the QandAs from Conner L saying that the adapter modules are not brand specific. Also would you have schematics for my pickup and where to find the brake signal wire?

The adapter module itself is not brand or make/model specific. While it would be nice to pair the Dexter Adapter Module # DX35FR with the Dexter DX Series Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator # K71-651, you can also use the HydraStar # HBA-CAM instead. Either will work if you're trying to use it with different trailers, although getting a brake controller with an EOH mode like P3 part # 90195 would be more ideal.

As for reliability difference, I haven't heard anything yet comparing them when it comes to salty roads. The main difference is that HydraStar # HBA-CAM has a larger user base and support and the Dexter module # DX35FR is much newer product recently released by Dexter.

While we don't have your truck schematics, we do have videos when we do install brake controllers like the one I attached below installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 on a 2008 GMC Sierra. I also attached the wiring diagram for the Dexter Adapter Module # DX35FR to give you an idea of where to wire it in. It will be a different process if you're wiring it directly to your IBC, but the brake controller video explains the general wiring area in your truck.
