What Causes Gain Level To Jump Around On a Trailer Brake Controller
Question:
I set my controller to 1.8 to 1.9 , 7 x14. No issue. After about a hour drive it has jump all over the place. Never touched the unit. Could it be a bad unit. Saw gauge at 11 while beakes locked up. What could be the cause. Would be best just to replace the controller . Thanks.

The brake output gain setting jumping around can sometimes be caused by a shorted or loose connection so giving the wiring a good once over would be idea but more often than not it's an internal error and the unit would indeed have to be replaced. The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 is what I recommend, it's the last controller you'll ever have to buy.
