Comparing Trailer Hitches and Parts Needed To Tow a Trailer With a 2018 Toyota Highlander

Question:

I like the Drawtite 76336 Hitch. What features does it have, in general that put the price up from other drawtite hitches in an apples to apple comparison. I read about wc and wd.. Is this different that their other hitches? Also, I need a wiring harness kit. 7 pin. What do you recommend? Is there a plug and play option? Also , when does a brake controller come into play? The hybrid is rated to 3500 lbs and a max tongue weight of 325 or so. The hybrid depends on its brakes for charging the batteries. I dont know if more load is better or worse and can be mitigated with a brake controller. Right now I only pull a motorcycle trailer and one bike with a total weight of 1300 lbs. But I could pump up to a small mini trailer sometime. My payload capacity on the vehicle is a max of 1600 lbs without the tongue weight. . Have to travel light I need a transmission cooler. What do you recommend? Thanks.

The trailer hitch options for a 2018 Toyota Highlander (All Models) can be broken down into two categories, hidden and visible. The hidden options provide a cleaner look since the cross tube is hidden behind the bumper but they lack the capacity of the visible options which also allow you to use a weight distribution system. I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # e98844 so long as you don't need weight distribution.

In regard to wiring, the best option for models without the tow package would be the Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 22119 which is plug and play. It also allows you to plug in a brake controller if the trailer has brakes, the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller part # TK90160.

For a transmission cooler, the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13504 would be best.
