To add a 7 way trailer connector to your 2003 I recommend using the Ford Replacement OEM Tow Package Wiring Harness, 7-Way # 118242, since it comes with the fuses needed to activate your factory towing circuits. This will be a plug and play type harness, so it's easy to install and will allow you to tow a trailer with brakes.
If you don't already have a brake controller, that will also be required. For that I recommend using the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195, which will provide you with proportional braking for your trailer. This is a reliable controller with an easy to read LCD screen, and it can be installed easily using the plug and play adapter # 3035-P.
I've linked some review and installation videos of these parts for you to check out, as well.
