Torklift or Other Product for Holding Camper on a Flat Bed F-550
Question:
Hi...we have a 2000 ford f550 with a flat bed on it. We are going to be putting our truck camper on it and need ideas for tying it down. The torklift system seems way to expensive. Any ideas like these tie downs you sell with shock absorbers? Camper with water in it and such weighs about 5000 pounds If that wont work I do have the four brackets that slide into the torklift part that bolts to the truck frame.

I would use the Buyers Products # 337B40MP forged D-rings with brackets in the four locations where they are needed. You could install into metal deck framing, or into typical 2-by lumber materail which itself has been secured to the fram of the truck. Then you could potentially use 4 Cargo Buckle # IMF14069 tie down straps rated for 2200 pounds each. Not only would these hold a camper on the flat bed, but when the camper is out, these parts will help secure other loads. You will need to contact your camper manufacturer to confirm that this method would work for their campers.
Regarding shock absorption - you might consider the TorkLift # TLS9000 spring loaded turnbuckles if they would reach for your application and budget. Their maximum length is 41" counting the chain, turnbuckle, and spring loaded barrels.
