Expert Reply:
The 7-Way Pre-Wired Car Connector, 7' Lead # 20023 you were looking at is designed to go in the bed of your 1984 Ford F-150 4x4 and splices in to the factory 7-way connector.
If you do not currently have a 7-way connector you will need to add one starting with a 4-way connector # HM40115 and then add a 7-way connector using # ETBC7 which will plug into your newly installed 4-way connector and only require a few more connections which are as follows:
Black wire to vehicle battery with included 40 amp circuit breaker
White wire grounded to frame
Blue wire to trailer brake controller (if not using trailer brake controller just tape wire up out of the way)
You may also need no drill mounting bracket # 18140 or # C57202 to mount the connector to your trailer hitch receiver.
If you are needing a trailer brake controller as well I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 as it is an extremely reliable controller with great features like an easy to read LCD screen and built in diagnostics that are easy to read and understand.
I included a few installation videos for you to take a look at.
