Recommended Cargo Basket To Carry Spare Tire
Question:
I am considering mounting my 09 Mercedes ML320 full-size spare tire in the Curt Roof Carrier Basket. The assembly is heavy, ~50 lbs. Will the Curt rack support a spare tire bracket that will secure the spare tire assembly? If so, what are your suggestions? Is there a portable/collapsable step available to get me high enough to lift the beast off the basket carrier?

The only spare tire mount we offer for a cargo basket is the Spare Tire Carrier for Yakima Roof Cargo Baskets part # Y07076 which is designed to be used with a Yakima cargo basket like the Yakima OffGrid Roof Cargo Basket part # Y07138. That's not to say you could not use another cargo basket to carry a spare tire like the Curt Roof Mounted Cargo Basket part # C18115 but you'd have to find a way to secure it to this.
For a step, I like the Rightline Gear Moki Door Step part # RL100660.
