Will Electric Over Hydraulic Disc Brakes Fit On Triple Axle Lowboy Gooseneck Trailer?

Question:

I want to convert a triple axle lowboy gooseneck equipment trailer from electric drum to EoH disc. I currently have 2 1/2” clearance between existing brake plate and frame. Will disc brakes work on this application?

I reached out to my contact at Hydrastar and a kit like their HydraStar Disc Brake Kit w/ Actuator for Triple Axle Trailers - 13" Hub/Rotor - 8 on 6-1/2 - 7K # HSE7K-TR1 will only stick back past the brake mounting flange roughly 1" so you will still have enough clearance, and he mentioned they have had customers install their kits on lowboy trailers without any issues.

The # HSE7K-TR1 is a fit for triple axle trailers with 7000lb axles and includes everything needed including rotors, calipers, pads the electric over hydraulic actuator, and the brake lines.

To determine if this fit fits you will need to remove one of your current hubs and find your bearing combination. The easiest way to do this is to look for the bearing numbers stamped on the face of each bearing as shown in the included picture of the # L44649.

If your bearings are worn to the point that you cannot read your bearing numbers then you will need to use digital calipers like # PTW80157 to precisely measure your spindle according to the included diagram.

The # HSE7K-TR1 uses inner bearing # 25580 and outer bearing # 14125A so if this matches your bearing combination this would be the best option as it already includes everything needed.

If you have a different bearing combination just let me know.

I included a few video reviews for you to take a look at.
