Determining Which 12" x 2" Braking Assemblies For Tandem Axle 4 Horse Trailer
Question:
We are looking to buy a 4 horse trailer. There’s no working breaks and we only have a vin number on the trailer. There’s 2 axles both set up for breaks . The lug pattern is 5 lugs and axles are 3 inches. Breaks are 2 by 12 and trailer empty at the Weight station said it’s 7,500 what axles do I have?

Since you have 12" x 2" braking assemblies you have a 5200-7000lb axle, but to confirm the exact axle rating I would need to know the brand and serial number of the axle which is found on the axle tag, or can get a closer range with the GVWR of the trailer.
For replacement braking assemblies I recommend the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 5.2K to 7K # AKEBRK-7-SA, but if you are needing hub and drum assemblies as well you will need to confirm your bearing combination.
The easiest way to do this is by removing one of your current hubs and looking for the bearing numbers stamped in the face of each bearing as shown in the included picture of the # L44649.
If your bearings are worn to the point that you cannot read the bearing numbers you will need to use digital calipers like # PTW80157 to precisely measure your spindle according to the included diagram.
If you can tell me the bearing combination of your axle I would be happy to recommend the correct replacement hub and drum assemblies if needed.
I included a video of the # AKEBRK-7-SA for you to take a look at.
