Replacement 7-Way Trailer Connector For Rectangular Tow Package Connector on 1999 Ford F-350
Question:
I have always been impressed with the help and ease of ordering from you guys in the past. Today I received my CURT #55774 rcustom wiring harness that I ordered. However it will not work due to the fact that the factory plug on truck is rectangular and not round. After doing more research which is no fault of you guys I see that 2 different connections were used by Ford, both round and rectangular. The #55774 is Round. I need the rectangular type factory connection. Can you advise on the correct part number, availability of a similar product that will plug into the factory wire harness and includes the 4 pin connector as well? Can I also return the #55774 for credit on a replacement connector? Thank you so much

Expert Reply:
For the rectangular connector, you'll want to use the Curt # C55243 which includes the necessary fuses and relays to activate the tow package. The # C55243 doesn't include an integrated 4 pole connector like the
# C55774 does, but you can use an adapter like # PK12716 from Pollak.
I'm typically not super-enthused about using adapters, but Pollak currently makes the trailer connectors for every domestic pickup right now, and they build a great product so this should be very reliable for you.
I've linked to a product installation video for the wiring harness. A harness from a different manufacturer is shown, but the procedure shown would be the same as with the # C55243.
