7-Way Trailer Connector Recommended for 2016 Chevy Traverse

Question:

Good afternoon, I have a 2016 Chevy traverse without the factory tow package. I am looking for the correct wiring to be able to tow my camper. I ideally would like the 7 and 4 pins available. I look up inside the rear vendor and there is a plug there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I'd be happy to help you with that. Even though you don't have the 'factory tow package', your vehicle is already prewired for a 7-way and a brake controller, if you need one. For the 7-way, you can use part # 118271 that will plug into the connector under the bumper. The kit includes the fuses and relays needed to activate the tow package.

For a 4 pin connector, you can either use an adapter like # PK12716, or you can use a t-connector like # 118384 that would plug into the connection between the harness and the 7-way socket provided by the # 118271. To attach the 7-way to the hitch crossbar, you'll need a # A10-9394VP bracket and a # 18140 standoff bracket. To mount the 4 pin collector, you can use the # 18144 bracket and another # 18140 standoff bracket.

If the camper has brakes, you'll need a brake controller to actuate them. The Tekonsha Primus, part # TK90160 is an inexpensive brake controller that would work well for you. You'd also need the # 3026-P brake controller wring harness which would install as shown in the linked video.

Finally, if you don't already have a trailer hitch, I'd recommend the Curt Class III hitch, part # 13424. I'll link to an install video for you.
