4-Way Wiring Issue on 1997 Jeep Wrangler With LED Taillights
Question:
Hello, I bought the Curt T connector for my 97 Jeep Wrangler. After connecting, I tested the wires for function. Brown lead lights for headlight, yellow wire test good for left turn and green test good for right turn. All outgoing leads tested as they should work. However, when I plug in trailer connector from trailer, both lights on Jeep blink with either right or left blinker on. No tail lights or turn on trailer, Brake lights worked. I cleaned all grounds to clean metal contact so I cannot figure out what is wrong. I replaced trailer harness and lights with new. I did replace tail lights 6 months ago with LED lights. Something is definitely crossed up. Any help is most appreciated.

I believe we are running into one of 2 issues. I believe the issue may be with the LED taillights that you installed 6 months ago. Depending on how they are controlled that might be where the issue is coming from. It could have its own circuitry that is causing the power to crossover and that is why you are seeing both turn signals going when they shouldn't be. I recommend reaching out to the Taillight Manufacturer to see if they are aware of this being an issue.
The second could be the lights/wiring on the trailer causing the issue. I have linked below our help article on the wiring for you to compare with your trailer. I recommend a good Test Light # PTW2991 to help you with finding these issues. We also have a great Article linked below that can walk you through several different steps in finding the issue. I would suggest starting with the vehicle connected with the trailer and identify if the wiring on the trailer is getting the same signal as the vehicle's wiring that you already tested. If something is different that will help identify your issue. If the wiring on the trailer all has the same signals working then it will be time to check the ground connections both on the trailer and going back into the 4-Way. Ensure there is good continuity. If all of this checks out and you still not identified the issue please let me know and I will continue to help however possible.
