Recommended Flat Towing Setup For 2021 Ford Escape Hybrid

Question:

We have changed the tow vehicle we are purchasing so now we are focusing on a 2021 Ford Escape AWD Hybrid. Unlike Subaru, Ford specifically states it can be flat towed so no warranty issues. In addition, it has more safety features, is an automatic, and gets much better mileage. Can you recommend a base plate, tow bar, safety chains, brake system, tail light system, and trickle charger (to avoid battery drain on the Ford). We are towing with an Airstream Atlas.

I would be glad to recommend everything you will need to flat tow your 2021 Ford Escape Hybrid.

Starting with the base plate kit I recommend the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM39FR which will pair up perfectly with the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar - Motorhome Mount - 2" Hitch - 6,000 lbs # RM-522 . The # RM-522 is one of our most popular tow bars due to the non-binding arms that allow you to unhook your tow vehicle easily and quickly even if you are parked on un-even ground.

Moving on to safety cables and wiring I recommend the RoadMaster Falcon 2 and Falcon All-Terrain Combo Towing Kit with Straight Wiring # RM-9243-1 which includes the wiring, safety cables, and connectors needed to safely flat tow your Subaru along with a storage case for the tow bar when it is not in use.

Since you mentioned that you are wanting a charge line to keep your battery from being drained I recommend the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25 which will install in your Escape, and if your tow vehicle does not have a factory battery charge line you will also need the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Motorhomes # RM-156-75.

For a supplemental braking system I recommend the Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # SM99251 which my contact at Demco was able to confirm will work in your 2021 Escape, and will work great with the hydraulic brakes in your Airstream Atlas.

Lastly you will more than likely need a high-low adapter to level your tow vehicle to your tow bar so I have included a link to a helpful article that goes over how to measure for the correct adapter, and a link to all of our high-low adapters for you to take a look at.

It is always a good idea to check the recreational towing section of your vehicles owner's manual for any flat towing restrictions, and for any special steps required to make your vehicle ready to be flat towed.

I included videos for each of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
