Will the Blue Ox Bolt-On Base Plate Bracket Kit Fit a Jeep Wrangler

Question:

Im looking to set up my 2003 Jeep Wrangler for flat towing behind my motorhome. Im aware that a baseplate is available, but I dont like how the install requires drilling my frame and worst of all the clearance issue that the baseplate will present. Therefore Im interested in BX88230. I only have the stock bumper and I see many people mounting this setup directly to the stock bumper. If it is installed properly is this safe on my stock bumper? The weight of my Jeep is well under the weight limit for this item. Would BX88266 be a stronger alternate? It appears to have a larger backing plate that might spread out the load more on my bumper. Thanks.

In regards to using universal bumper attachments such as the Blue Ox Bolt-On Base Plate Bracket Kit part # BX88230, they are designed for use with all steel front bumpers. The bumper must also be rated for flat-towing per the manufacturer. If both of these are true and it's installed properly then so long as you're under the weight capacity there should not be any issues.

That said, a far better option in regards to installation and liability would be to use a base plate kit which do require some modifications to the vehicle. I recommend the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit part # BX1120.
