Dry weight is the weight of your vehicle when completely empty with no passengers or cargo loaded. The gross trailer weight is total weight of the trailer plus the cargo loaded on it. The main two things you need to look at are your vehicle's max towing capacity and the trailer's gross weight. My research tells me that your 2010 Ford Edge has a max towing capacity of 2,000lbs, but you can verify in your owner's manual. This means you should not pull a trailer that exceeds 2,000lbs.

If you do not have a trailer hitch receiver yet, I recommend Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75992. You will also need vehicle wiring for the trailer 4 way flat # 118551. When pulling a trailer that weighs at least 50% of your vehicle's total weight then it is recommended to use a weight distribution hitch. This system will help level the trailer and keep the weight evenly distributed, hence reducing sway.

When deciding which weight distribution hitch to get you will look at the Tongue Weight of the trailer, which is the amount of weight that is physically resting on your vehicle's hitch ball. If you do not know the trailer's tongue weight, then you can take about 10-15% of the loaded trailer's weight and that will be your tongue weight. If your trailer is about 2,000lbs then you will have roughly 200-300lb tongue weight. If this is the case, then you can go with Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - Clamp On # BXW0350. This is rated at a minimum tongue weight of 100lbs and a max tongue weight of 350lbs. You will also need a hitch ball: use # C48810 for 1-7/8", use # A-90 for 2", use # 19286 for 2-5/16". I have attached demonstration videos.
