Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2020 Chevy Equinox Behind Motorhome
Question:
Hi Folks. As always, thanks for your expert help. In my search for clarity I get deeper and deeper into confused at times. Im hoping you can help me out. -2007 Fleetwood Bounder Diesel, Freightliner XCS chassis with rear signal lamps Amber not the same bulb as the Brake lights. -I will be hooking up to tow a 2020 Chev Equinox Premier WITH LED tail lights. QUESTION- Will I need some sort of converter or something between the motorhome 7 pin plug-in and the wiring with the diodes connector that goes to the car tail lights.? What recommendations do you have for compatibility and brands etc.? I will be using a Roadmaster baseplate, Falcon all terrain tow bar, and Roadmaster invisibrake braking system. Question - Any other recommendations or cautions you may have for this setup ? Thank you so much for the help you give us all.

This is a really good question and I can tell you did your homework on this. But the great news is that your 7-way trailer connector already has the turn signals and brake lights combined onto the same circuit since that is the standard for trailer wiring.
Everything you mentioned so far for your 2020 Chevy Equinox is a really solid flat towing setup. The Roadmaster base plate # RM-523193-5 is easiest to use option with the Falcon All Terrain # RM-522.
For lighting/safety cables, locks, and covers for the tow bar we have the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain kit part # RM-9243-1 which comes with all of that as one part number. The diode kit that comes with this allows you to splice into the taillight wiring so that your RV controls the vehicle taillights and does not require drilling into the taillight housings. This comes with a round 6-way connector that you will install on the front of your towed vehicle and enough coiled wire to go from there to the RV.
The Invisibrake part # RM-8700 is a solid choice but instead I'd recommend the SMI DUO part # SM99251 for an easier install and better performance. Our installers prefer this system over everything else for these reason.
