Solution For Carrying Bikes on Tear Drop Trailer Where 6" Drop Ball Mount Is Required

Question:

Im looking for a 6 Ball Mount that would allow the addition of a second receiver for a bike carrier. I was looking at the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount, but it appears to only be available in a 2 . Are there any other similar options for towing a tear trailer and having a hitch mount bike carrier?

I have a solution for you, and normally the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount # D210 would be the best solution for this since it wouldn't reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch. I don't recommend any type of dual receiver with a drop because doing so would reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by roughly 50%, so that would limit you quite a bit.

If you've got a tear trailer with a straight tongue then I recommend using the Hitch-It 2 Bike Rack for Straight Tongue Trailers # LC731138 or if you've got an A frame trailer with a jack mounted at the front then the Jack-It 2 Bike Rack for A-Frame Trailers - 22-1/2" Jack Clearance # LC429756 would both be good options.

If you need to carry 4 bikes, then the best available solution for this would be using the Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers - 2" Hitch - 5" Drop/Rise - 16K # 325-GH-214, which would allow you to carry a bike rack and gives you a ball mount for your tear drop trailer. This is a 5" drop, but if you needed something larger then next size down is a 7-1/2" drop with the Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers - 2" Hitch - 7-1/2" Drop/Rise - 10K # 325-GH-314.
