Compatibility of Saris SuperClamp EX SA4026F Rack With Bikes Equipped With Fenders
Question:
The manufacturers description states that the rack can be used with fendered bikes yet a reply in the QandA states that the rack does not accommodate fendered bikes. Why has e-trailer determined to overrule Saris statements on this facet? Excellent e-trailer review and presentation, btw.

Bikes that are equipped with fenders usually aren't well suited for bike racks that use hooks to hold the front bike wheel just forward of the forks. The hooks can't get secure contact with the tire, so the bike isn't held tightly enough and the fear is that if you hit a good bump or pothole the bike could jump out of the hook. This is why we stated that racks such as the Saris SuperClamp EX # SA4026F wouldn't work well with bikes equipped with fenders....or so we thought.
I spoke with my Saris representative who explained that because the SuperClamp # SA4026F uses straps on BOTH wheel trays to secure the bike rather than just a single strap for the rear tire, the SuperClamp is unique in that it will work with bikes that have fenders because there is NO danger of the bike hopping out.
