Correct Winch Mounting Plate for Class I Hitch

Question:

Regarding the Bulldog BD54FR Utility Winch and the Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver Winch Mounting Plate Item # BDW20011...I have a 16, 1700 lbs pontoon boat that I pull out of the water once a year. Two guys push the boat back into the water in the spring. I pull the boat onto wooden ramps that have trailer ease on the wood for slippage. All of this is is being done by hand using a come-along onto the shore. The boat stays on the ramps over the winter. I want to use the Class I trailer hitch on the back of my SUV, this mounting plate and the 2500 lbs winch. Does this winch and mounting plate have to be mounted on a front hitch? Anything else I should know? Thanks in advance.

Yes, the Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver Winch Mounting Plate Item # BDW20011 can also be used on the hitch on the back of your SUV. The issue here is that you have a Class I trailer hitch and the Draw-Tite Winch Mounting Plate # BDW20011 fits into 2" hitch receivers.

A better fit for you will be the Bulldog Winch ATV Winch Mounting Plate for 1-1/4" Hitches # BDW20316. This will fit into your 1-1/4" Class I hitch and is compatible with Bulldog Winches like the Bulldog Utility Winch # BD54FR.
