In order to install a brake controller on a 2012 Toyota RAV4 you'll need to add a 7-way trailer connector. In order to do this you'll first need to start with a 4-way, the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118412, This can then be adapted to a 7-way using the 4 to 7-way and 4-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. This kit comes with everything needed to wire in the brake controller as well.
The Tekonsha Sentinel Brake Controller 9055 will work just fine but you will need the Pigtail part # 7894 if you don't already have one.
