Replacing OEM Trailer Brake Controller With Primus IQ On 2016 Toyota Tundra
Question:
Hi, I was considering replacing the integrated OEM brake controller on my 2016 Tundra. I dont think it gives me as much braking as I would like. I read some of your existing answers, and they seemed contradict each other. One said to remove the panel for the existing controller and use that connection. But another seemed to say there was another connection below the dash. I looked and did not see one. Can you confirm where I would connect the controller. Do I have to remove the dash panel with the existing brake controller? Thanks.

I understand your confusion!
The OEM trailer brake controller connector for your 2016 Toyota Tundra is located behind the small panel on the right side of the steering wheel as shown at the 9:20 mark of the included video. This plug will be currently plugged in to your OEM trailer brake controller.
To replace the OEM trailer brake controller on your 2016 Toyota Tundra with an aftermarket replacement like the Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90160 you were looking at you will need to unplug your OEM trailer brake controller and plug in the Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter # 3031-P that is made for your Tundra and will plug directly into the Primus IQ # TK90160.
To complete the install all you will need to do is mount the Primus IQ # TK90160 to your dash with the included mounting bracket and hardware.
I included a video of the Tekonsha P3 # 90195 being installed on a 2015 Toyota Tundra as the P3 will install the same, and use the same wiring adapter.
