You are correct, the # C45501 ball mount included with the # C11291 Class I receiver does require a hitch ball with a 3/4 inch shank. For a 1-7/8 inch ball, use part # A-80 or part # A-82 for a 2 inch ball. Both trailer balls feature a 3/4 inch diameter shank.
