Installing a 7-Way trailer connector on your 2006 Chevy Avalanche is actually going to be pretty easy. All you will need is # 30955. Even if the Avalanche did not come with a factory 7-Way, the wiring is still present and you will just need to connect this harness to the truck wiring.
Under the truck, usually located above the spare tire, there is a harness with a plug on it like in the picture I have included (the picture is also lower on the product page for # 30955). The 30955 harness will plug into this factory harness. I have also linked a video that shows a typical installation on a similar vehicle.
If you are also going to install a brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885, because it is easy to set up and easy to use. You will also need wiring harness # 3015-P to plug into the factory port under the dash. I have included links to a video and the instructions for this harness as well.
