Replacement Hubs for 2,000 lb Dexter Torflex Axle

Question:

I recently purchased a 1997 Wells cargo enclosed trailer, I planned to replace the bearings, races and seals, but it also has some broken studs. It just seems that replacing the entire hub assembly will be the better route. So in looking up replacement hubs, there show several with 2 different bearings. Is there any way to figure out which ones I need without pulling the hubs off to see the bearings? The only information I can get off the tag on the axle is: Dexter Torflex 2,000. The tag is mangled. It has a 5X4.5 bolt pattern. Thank you for your time.

Thanks for the info, and since you know you have a 2,000 lb #9 Dexter Torflex axle, we can get you the right replacement hub because we know those use inner and outer bearings # L44649.

So the correct replacement hub for your application is the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles - 5 on 4-1/2" Bolt Pattern # 8-259-5UC1.

That is for standard spindles, so if you have the EZ-Lube spindle, what you will need is the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb E-Z Lube Axle # 8-258-5UC1-EZ.

For grease I recommend thePrime Guard Wheel Bearing Hi-Temp Red Grease # L11380, and for a bearing packer I recommend the Bearing Packer # ALL647646.
