Is The BAKFlip MX4 Compatible With Dee Zee Hex Bed Rails

Question:

I have a 2014 f150 6.5foot bed with the Dee Zee Hex Bed Rails. My current tonneau cover turned out to be incompatible with rails. I have the Extang Encore Tri-Fold hard cover. They both fit together, but when you try to fold the cover, the cover binds at the rails and you have to bend the rails outward to fold the cover which is going to cause damage. I am curious if the Bakflip mx4 would be compatible? Mounting wise I know it wont be an issue, but when it is in the process of being folded, will it make contact with the rails?

I can see where the Extang EnCore Hard Tonneau Cover Item EX62790 would make contact with the dee zee bed rails on your 2014 Ford F-150. The outer edge of the cover is hard. The BAKFlip MX4 Hard Tonneau Cover - Folding - Aluminum - Matte Finish Item # BAK48307 however, is a lower profile cover an sits inside the rails. Instead of having a hard edge it has a rubber flap that rests on the top of the bed rail. From what I can tell by looking at a Ford with the dee zee bed rails, the BAKFlip is going to work. The only thing that may slightly brush up against your Dee Zee rails would be the rubber strip along the edge. The cover itself actually sits inside the bed rails so there would not be any contact from the hard part of the cover. The tonneau cover rail that sits up to the edge of the rear stake pocket may have to be trimmed a little. I have spoke with BAKFlip about the issue. They do not offer a cover that is specifically designed to work with after market parts like this however, they do agree with me that it will work.
