Fifth Wheel Hitch Towing Capacity for 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 Short Bed

Question:

I own a 2020 Silverado 2500 HD Crew Cab, 6.9 foot standard bed 4x4 lTZ, looking at a specific 5th wheel current travel trailer owner - upgrading to 5th wheel hopefully 2500 HD Sticker details: GVWR: 11,350 GCWR: 27,500 RGAWR: 6,600 Curb Weight: 8,077 Max Payload: 3,273 Gooseneck TWR: 18,500 Max Tongue Weight: 2,775 5Th wheel specs: UVW: 13,8400 GVWR: 16,900 Max Cargo: 3,000 Question is, if I assume 425 lbs. for passengers family of 4, 100 LBS of cargo in the bed maybe not possible since 5th wheel hitch there, gives me 525 LBS of cargo in truck. Now if I add the weight of the 5th wheel hitch based on UVW of 13,840 @ 20 - I get hitch weight of 2,614 + 525 cargo = 3,139 Payload...so Im under my MAX Payload by 134 lbs. But we will obv. load stuff into the camper....so, this is where Im confused on what to look at as my max tongue weight per my sticker says: : 2,775 so looking for guidance on how to ensure I can safely stay within limits of my 2500 HD and get the 5th wheel we really want...and if i need a slider hitch or not ?? Thank you

The important factors to consider is that your truck has an overall gooseneck/fifth wheel trailer towing capacity of 18,500 lbs and the max the trailer you are looking at could weigh is 16,900 lbs if loaded to it's capacity. So what that means is that you easily have the capacity without having to add in other various figures. You are safe to tow that trailer.

Since your 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500HD short bed does not have the OEM rail kit you will need to install a rail kit to install a fifth wheel hitch. For that many consider the B and W Companion Slider hitch part # BWRVK3400 the best option and you'd only need the rail kit # BWGNRK1020 which is a fit for your truck and you'd be set.
