Thule 589 Velo Vise Compatability with Audi Base Carrier Bars

Question:

I have a 2018 Audi A5 Coupe which can be fitted with Audi Base Carrier Bars Part Number: 8W6071126 to accept Thule attachments. My question is can my old Thule 589 Velo Vise bike carrier designed to fit older Thule rectangular bars and Yakima round bars be modified with an adapter to fit these Audi Base Carrier Bars? Will the Thule 889800 Bike Square Bar Adapter do this?

I got in touch with Thule, and they stated that the Thule 589 Velo Vise on its own will only work with square bars like you mentioned. The Thule Bike Square Bar Adapter you mentioned would only be needed if you had square bars that you needed to use with a bike rack that wasn't made for square bars.

To make your Thule 589 Velo Vise work for your 2018 Audi A5, you could also just use a roof rack with square bars to avoid having to use other adapter accessories. I recommend the Thule SquareBar Evo Crossbars # TH712400 with Evo Clamp Feet # TH710501, and Fit Kit # TH145196.

Otherwise, you would need a different bike carrier to be used with the factory bars. I recommend the Thule FastRide # TH95JV, which is a fork mount bike rack that fits with most crossbar styles.
