Installing A 5th Wheel Hitch Kit On A 2020 Ram 2500 With A Bedrug

Question:

Just bought a 2020 RAM 2500. I want to install a 5th wheel kit in the truck. Can I safely install the hardware without removing the bedrug? Surely there has to be a way to cut out the holes in the bedrug and make it look professional while also making it safe and functional? I want to use my truck without the 5th wheel most of the time but I dont want water damage under my bedrug either. Thanks

In order to install any 5th wheel hitch kit in the bed of your 2020 Ram 2500 the bed rug would have to be temperately removed. All hardware and brackets have to mount to the bed itself. Once the kit is installed the mat can be reinstalled and flaps can be cut in the mounting locations of the hitch. To minimize the amount of cuts on your mat and having a 6-1/2ft bed, I recommend the Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches Item # BWGNRK1320-5W and the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - Dual Jaw - 20,000 lbs Item # BWRVK3400-5W. The only flaps you would need to make with this kit are for the center hole on the under bed bracket and the rubber foot pads on the bottom of the 5th wheel hitch that run in the lower corrugation of the bed. If you are not planning on pulling a goose neck a flap would not need to be made for the safety chain loops. A simple way to make the flaps is once the under bed bracket is installed, reinstall the mat. Find the hole in the bed that your 5th wheel secures into. You essencially would be cutting a square but only cutting three of the sides. This creats a flap that can be folded up when needed and folded back down when you are wanting to cover the hole. The same can be done with the rubber foot pads.

If you truck has the OEM prep package you would just need the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider for Ram Towing Prep Package - Dual Jaw - 20K Item # BWRVK3670 and only a small flap would need to be made for each foot.
