Leaf Springs and Shackle Straps for Triple Axle Trailer with 7-3/4 Inch Equalizers

Question:

Hello. I seen a post that you answered with detail and I am hoping you can help me. I installed 3 5200 axles with 7000 lb. leafs and equalizers. Some thing is wrong. The center axle is shifting towards the rear and the equalizers are hitting the frame. My hanger CTC is 30 from 1-2, 34 from 2-3 and 30 from 3-4. My springs are 28 eye to eye. My equalizers are 7 3/4 eye to eye and all 4 equalizers are the same. Right now, my axle CTC is 35 from axle 1-2 and 32 from axle 2-3. It shifted 1.5. I either have springs that are too long, equalizers that are too long or I need the front equalizer that the leaf spring of the second axle bolts directly to the equalizer and eliminating that shackle. Can you please help? This is very unsafe and I am scared to even pull this trailer with a 11k pound boat on it.

The issue you are experiencing is a result of leaf springs that are too long for your hanger spacing. You will want shorter springs and I recommend also going with a capacity more geared toward your axles. You will want to use the Triple-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs # APTT5 and # APTT3 for reference. These kits are rated for 2,000 to 7,000 lb axles with almost identical spacing.

My recommendation for you is the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 5,300-lb Trailer Axles - 24-7/8" Long # SP-222275 as well as shackle straps # 115052. This will work well with your axle spacing and your axle capacities.
