Trailer Wiring Harness Connection Location Under the Dash of a 2008 Toyota Highlander Limited
Question:
The wiring package I got is #118449 and the white connector from the kit doesnt seem to fit the plug under the dash. Should I have the C56217 instead?

In the area on the vehicle where the white connector is located, there is another white connector nearby that appears to be the OBDII port. If that is the connector you see (and it will be mounted to the dash and not hanging) then it is not the correct connector. Take a look at the video I have provided. It will show the connector you are looking for.
If you have found the correct connector and it still does not fit, switching to harness # C56217 will not work since it has the same connector and installs the same way. There may be other connectors present in that same area and you may just have the wrong one.
I also spoke with my contact at Tow Ready and he stated the same thing. This actually comes up often because that OBDII port is in the same general area but the connector you need is further back and up more under the dash.
