Best Roof Rack for 2018 Toyota Sienna for Thule Hullavator Kayak Carrier
Question:
Hello, I have a 2018 Toyota Sienna XLE. I have raised factory side rails and need to install cross rails with a minimum 4-8 inch overhang per the Thule Hullavator instruction manual. Will the Curt Roof Rack work for my needs from a durability and functionality standpoint? Would you recommend the Yakima roof rack instead? Side note: I am 5 foot 2 inch and have purchased the Hullavator to be able to get a single kayak on top of my minivan Thank you.

The best roof rack for your 2018 Toyota Sienna is from Thule, as the Curt Roof Rack # C18118 has somewhat oddly shaped bars, and it isn't compatible with the Thule Hullavator Pro Kayak Carrier # TH898.
You're right that the Yakima rack is pricier, but it is also a much higher quality rack, is going to be compatible with more accessories than the Curt (like the Hullavator), and will have the distance needed over the edge of your Sienna's raised rails to use the Hullavator.
The Yakima rack that fits your '18 Sienna is also made up of just two parts and is extremely easy to install. The correct parts are:
- Yakima JetStream Crossbars # Y00425
- TimberLine Towers # Y33TR
I do recommend adding locks to help protect your investments. For the Hullavator use the Thule One-Key System Lock Cylinders # TH450200, and for the Yakima rack use Lock Cores # Y07204.
