Swing Away Hitch for Right-Hand Drive Cars

Question:

How does this work in location where the driver is on the right of the car. Say England. Do they make a reverse version?

Great question! I have an option for you, but the Yakima BackSwing Swing Away Hitch Extender # y02483 does not have a reverse version. Neither can it be turned upside-down to work in reverse, which some have asked about, since that puts too much weight straight on the bracket and not the supporting bars.

My recommendation is the Kuat Pivot 2 Swing Away Hitch Extender for Driver's Side # PVD20B, I've attached a video where you can see how it swings left towards, well, the "passenger's" side if you're using a right-hand vehicle in England.

The Kuat Pivot does have a lower weight capacity of 250lbs compared to the Thule Access, but it's also lighter and folds back shorter. It's still a very reasonable carrying capacity for a hitch extender that pivots to the left.

Hope that helps!
