Recommended Weight Distribution System for 5300 lb Apex Nano Camper

Question:

Hi, I have a 2019 Tacoma TRD off road package with the tow package GVWR 5760 lbs, tongue load up to 640 lbs, Towing capacity of 6400 lbs. My trailer is an Apex Nano, hitch weight 530 lbs, GVWR 6000 lbs, actual weight 5300 lbs. I would like to install a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller and a Tuson Electronic Sway Control System and would like your recommendation on the weight distribution system I need. Thank you

If the as-towed weight of your camper is 5300 lbs, and we know a trailer's tongue weight is typically 10-15% of its loaded weight, your tongue weight almost certainly sits at a minimum of around 550 lbs to 800 lbs at the most. You can confirm this by checking out the linked article.

Since you're planning on using the # 335TSC-1000 Tuson sway control, you can simply use a chain suspended weight distribution system like the Reese # RP67509 which is effective on trailers with tongue weights up to 800 lbs, which is perfect for your needs. You'll also need an # A-90 hitch ball for a 2 inch or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch ball.

The Tekonsha # 90195 P3 brake controller will work great for you, and you'll also need the # 3031-P wiring adapter.
