Question:
What range of tires, d or e, would you suggest for towing a trailer with less than 7000 GVWR?

Expert Reply:
I'm assuming you have a tandem axle trailer, and are interested in a ST225/75-15 tire, as that's what you'd looked at. A load range D tire like # AM10256 would have a capacity of 2540 lbs per tire/5080 lbs per axle while the load range E tire like the # AM10303 you looked at has a capacity of 2830 lbs per tire/5660 lbs per axle. As long as as the total load capacity of your tires meets or exceeds the GVWR of your trailer, then you'll be fine. Once again, assuming a tandem axle trailer, you could actually save a few dollars and go with a load range C tire, part # AM10244 which has a capacity of 1820 per tire and 3640 lbs per axle.
I've linked to product description videos for the tire you'd looked at, plus the two I've mentioned above. I've also linked to our series of help articles that will teach you everything you've ever wanted to know about trailer tires.
