7-Way for 2017 Honda CR-V and Ball Mount With 2 Inch Hitch Ball
Question:
Hi. My wife has a 2017 Honda CRV Touring with a 1” receiver hitch. On the hitch the label it says Tow Weight 1,500 lbs. Her car has a four prong electrical connection. We are wanting to rent a Tear RV 2020 Tear TandG Trailer that weighs 1,000 lbs. and takes a 2” ball and 7 prong electrical connector. I believe the dealer said the ball needs to be 17” from the ground but could be wrong on that. What hitch do you recommend? Do you have a electrical connector adapter that would work? Once I know which one to get I will place an order. Thanks

For a 2017 Honda CR-V, you said 1" trailer hitch receiver, but I believe you meant it was a Class I hitch and had a 1-1/4" receiver, as there are no hitches with a 1" receiver. So assuming that is accurate let's start with the easy part, which is the ball mount (also called drawbar), and 2" hitch ball. For that you will need the following:
- Draw-Tite Drawbar # 3594
- 2" Hitch Ball # 19258
Next, since your 2017 Honda CR-V has a 4-way already, you can add an adapter that will attach to the trailer's 7-way with the Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole # 37185.
However, this will only give the CR-V the functions of the 4-way. A trailer with a 7-way means it has electric brakes, and if you want to use the brakes on the trailer (which is highly recommended for safety) you will need a brake controller for your CR-V.
For that you will need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 with the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller # TK90160.
I have added links to some video reviews for you to check out as well.
