Is Tekonsha Primus IQ Only Good For Use with Heavier Trailers
Question:
I was set to buy this unit but found online source listing the only Con of this controller being: Only good for trailers weighing 40 more than their tow. That reads correctly, 40 MORE than... Can you help me make sense of why this would be? FYI: My vehicle curb weight is 3718. Total payload including trailer 2400#. Is a different model controller needed? Thanks

The Tekonsha Primus IQ part # TK90160 does not have the requirement that you mentioned. It can easily be used on lighter trailers and heavier trailers. It has a sensitivity adjustment which allows you to tailor how aggressive the inertia sensor works to apply the trailer brakes so heavier or lighter will actuate the brakes really well.
