Folding Trailer Hitch Mount Cargo Carrier Recommendation for a 2011 Hyundai Tucson

Question:

I already have this trailer hitch installed on my 2011 Tucson. I want to buy the Curt cargo carrier c18131. Just wondering if I have enough room to flip the cargo carrier up right when not in use. Do I need an extender to do so? If I need an extender, I understand the allowable cargo weight will drop significantly. Do you know what is the maximum cargo weight would be with and without extender. Thanks.

There are some measurements you will need to take to determine if the Curt cargo carrier, # C18131, will fit when folded up on your 2011 Hyundai Tucson. First, measure from the center of the hitch pin hole straight back to the distance required to clear the rear of the vehicle.

On Curt cargo carrier # C18100, it measures only 5 inches from hitch pin hole to the rails when folded up so it may not be the best option. I do not recommend using an extension because doing so will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. After subtracting the 70 pounds of the carrier you would be left with only a 105 pounds that you could carrier.

Your best bet is Curt carrier, # C18151, which measures 9 inches from the hitch pin hole when folded up. I have linked instructions and a video for you.
