The center of the hitch jaws for trailer hitch # RP30081 will be centered over the rear axle on your 2012 Chevy 2500HD when using installation kit # RP50066-58. I have included a link to the installation kit instructions for you to view.
5th Wheel trailer hitches are normally positioned centered over the rear axle or within a few inches forward of it. I have also included a link to a video showing a typical installation for you.
