A trailer brake controller will need to be hardwired on a 1997 Chevy C/K series truck. I do not have a video showing this vehicle specifically but since hardwire installations are so similar among vehicles I have included a link to a video showing how it will be installed.
You will start by adding a 4-Way trailer wiring harness to the truck unless you already have one. Use # 118315 to add a 4-Way. Once installed, or using one already present on the truck if applicable, you will need to install a 4 and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7. I have also linked an FAQ that covers this installation.
The video and FAQ will explain the installation of the brake controller.
If your truck already has a 7-Way trailer connector, you will not need the ETBC7. Instead, you will need a brake controller installation kit # 5506. You will need to hardwire the brake controller red, black and white wires as explained in the FAQ. The blue wire will need to go from the controller back to the back of the 7-Way and attach to the 7:00 location.
